Sandhills Camellia Festival 2008

The 4th Annual Sandhills Camellia Festival, hosted by Olmsted Village and sponsored by the Sandhills Camellia Society, will be held Saturday, March 15, at Homewood Suites by Hilton, Olmsted Village, Pinehurst.  This year’s show will be judged by American Camellia Society (ACS) accredited judges.  Sandhills Camellia Society members and other volunteers will be in place from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. to register and prepare blooms for the show.

After judging is completed, the venue will open to the public from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m.  During that time, you can view the show’s many beautiful varieties of camellias and the winning blooms, get expert advice from Moore County Master Gardeners and attend one of our seminars.  At 1:00 p.m. Wilmington camellia expert Bill Howell will present “Camellias for North Carolina.”  He’ll be followed by Cindy Watson, co-owner of Cam-Too Nursery, who will discuss companion plantings for camellias.  Camellia plants, companion plants and raffle tickets for an array of useful garden packages will be for sale throughout the day.  Raffle winners will be drawn beginning at 4:30 p.m.  Call Jane Waldemar at (910) 295-4572 for more festival information and to ask about membership in the Sandhills Camellia Society.
