Continuing the Pinehurst tradition begun in 1895 and preserving the legacy left by the Tufts Family, the Olmsted Village Company owned and operated by a family native to Pinehurst, is well known and supported throughout the community for their past and ongoing developments. Some of their major projects are the restoration of the historic “Theatre” building and “Pinehurst Department Store” building in the “Village of Pinehurst” a “National Historic Landmark”. They seek the highest quality, while preserving the natural beauty and history of the area. Other projects include, upscale residential developments, commercial, office professional projects and now Olmsted Village.

Another important feature, is that Olmsted Village and its professional team, are located on site to oversee the management and development of the properties. Plans are on the drawing board for other exciting projects in the near future.

Olmsted Village exceeds what shopping should be, while providing quality, convenience and a variety of services in a unique setting. It is truly the total experience, and a day well spent.

Olmsted Village is named in honor of the Father of American Landscape Architecture, Fredrick Law Olmsted. Olmsted was responsible for over 2,000 landscape architectural designs of parks, villages, universities, residential communities, and public grounds. His most famous works included the Biltmore Gardens, the Washington Capitol grounds and Central Park in New York City.

James Walker Tufts of Boston, Massachusetts bought 5,000 acres of land in 1895 for $1.00 an acre in the barren Sandhills of Central North Carolina. He then enlisted the services of fellow Bostonian, Frederick Law Olmsted to design a village where his northern friends could spend their winters in a mild climate. Olmsted’s New England village design included the planting of over 247,000 trees and shrubs, over 50,000 of which came from foreign countries. It took two years of planning, planting and building until the village of Pinehurst was finally born.

Today Olmsted Village seeks to emulate Olmsted’s works by providing you with unique shopping, casual to fine dining, and office space in a setting of architecture and landscaping reminiscent of the master.
